Neurosurgeons are specialists who are highly valued everywhere at all times. The demand for them is particularly acute in modern Poland: many young and mid-career physicians are moving en masse to work in Western European countries, while older doctors, despite their solid experience, are no longer able to perform complex, delicate surgeries simply due to age. As a result, positions are increasingly opening up for foreigners seeking employment as neurosurgeons in Poland. The most realistic candidates are specialists from Ukraine and Belarus, who are ready to relocate to another country in exchange for higher salaries, more comfortable working conditions, and clearer career prospects.
What does a neurosurgeon do in a Polish clinic?
The scope of this physician’s competence includes diseases of the brain and spinal cord, the peripheral nervous system, certain vascular pathologies, and mental disorders caused by organic brain damage. Neurosurgery also has internal subspecializations, including pediatric, functional, septic, spinal, traumatic, and others.
Such physicians work in specialized inpatient facilities or in general hospitals within neurosurgery departments. Depending on the specifics of the institution, their duties may vary slightly, but they almost always include:
examining and assessing patients, establishing a diagnosis;
developing a treatment plan;
performing planned and emergency surgical interventions;
prescribing medications for conservative treatment, postoperative therapy, and pain management;
selecting physiotherapy procedures, exercises, and other rehabilitation methods.
In addition, working as a neurosurgeon in Poland involves maintaining medical documentation. Naturally, this must be done in Polish, knowledge of which is a mandatory requirement.

What does a migrant physician receive, and what is required to obtain it?
A foreign specialist who secures a neurosurgeon position in a Polish clinic can expect:
a salary starting from 9,700 PLN gross per month;
a regulated working day;
additional pay for on-call duties and overtime work;
full provision of everything necessary for effective performance of duties;
social guarantees and opportunities for professional and career growth;
deferred diploma nostrification — it may be completed after employment.
To obtain all of the above, not much is required at the initial stage. Those eligible to work as neurosurgeons in Poland are specialists who hold a medical university diploma from Ukraine or Belarus and a certificate in the specialty of “neurosurgery,” have confident command of medical Polish, have worked in the specialty in their home country for at least 3 years within the last 5 years, and have obtained authorization from the Polish Ministry of Health.
