Job responsibilities of an anesthesiologist
The full title of this specialty is “anesthesiologist–intensive care specialist.” A doctor in this field works with all types of anesthesia and is also responsible for providing intensive care. Thus, foreign nationals employed as anesthesiologists in Poland:
carefully review the patient’s medical history;
conduct a personal consultation, explaining which type of anesthesia will be used, what condition the patient will be in, and what difficulties may arise during recovery from anesthesia;
perform allergy tests;
determine the type of anesthesia to be used, assess risks, select medications, and calculate dosages;
prescribe so-called premedication — pharmacological preparation for anesthesia;
remain with the patient in the operating room, monitoring their condition;
perform resuscitation measures if necessary;
observe the patient in the early postoperative period;
complete medical documentation.

A qualified anesthesiologist must be able to work with all types of anesthesia — general (so-called general anesthesia), regional, and local.
Vacancies for anesthesiologists in Poland are available in intensive care units of both public and private inpatient medical facilities, as well as in outpatient clinics equipped with their own small operating rooms.
