In modern ophthalmology, laser correction is widely used to eliminate or reduce myopia or hyperopia. In complex cases, patients may be offered lens replacement surgery. An experienced ophthalmologist, especially one applying for a position in a Polish hospital, must have the relevant knowledge and skills to perform such procedures.

What else is required from the candidate?

A foreign specialist wishing to work as an ophthalmologist in a Polish medical institution should assess their chances in advance. They will be high for those who:

• hold documents confirming graduation from a medical university and completion of training in the specialty of “ophthalmology”;

• have at least 3 years of work experience in this specialty within the last 5 years;

• have mastered the Polish language — both conversational and professional;

• have obtained authorization and a license to practice medicine.

Such candidates, provided they are also responsible, communicative, non-confrontational, and conscientious, can reasonably expect comfortable employment and working conditions as ophthalmologists in Poland. The starting salary will be at least 9,700 PLN gross per month; all overtime, substitutions, and on-call duties are paid additionally; significant achievements are rewarded with financial bonuses; and the workplace is equipped in line with the latest trends and capabilities of high-tech ophthalmology.
